Happy New Year All (even if it is the 8th!)

I am looking at car hire next September for 15 nights and it is coming in at over £500 (Sep 25nd October 11th)

I have tried with the Hertz Amex Plat code and this is over £700!
When I went last Jan-March it was only £20 per day for Hertz SUV
Does anyone have any suggestions at all?

autoeurope gave me the best prices for October in California
You can also try https://www.discountfloridacarhire.co.uk/ but you need to e mail them for the best prices

Just pick one that is fully refundable and watch to see if it comes down

I have no idea how you managed 300 quid for 2 weeks before, but £500 sounds decent to me. For comparison, the same time next year I have a week booked at £450 for a large sedan, and 3 days for £180!

Book a refundable rate and keep a watch on the price as you can always cancel and rebook. It may go up rather than down.

I was thinking similar to @Masaccio, I just looked at my spreadsheet for Florida 2022 where I tracked car prices from various providers over a few months and it was consistently just over $500 for 6 days it occasionally dropped to £490ish but not often. I gave up in the end and booked one day car hire to get from Miami to Orlando and do some shopping on the way then used Uber from then on – That worked out much cheaper.

I concur with the above: we ended up doing a one-day hire for local exploration, then a 2-day to go to Clearwater coast etc. Booked through the BA Avis portal, which was almost half the price offered by the Avis desk in our hotel!
