Hi All
The 100k new card member offer on Platinum. I cannot see a way to Refer a Friend to get that offer, with me (as a current Platinum holder) benefitting.
The Refer a Friend website shows 80k them and 18k me.
Anyone able to refer the 100k offer?
Thanks.
Er, that is the offer.
The 100k offer is 75 now, 25 later.
The referral offer is 80 now, 25 later.
Ross, if you look further down the page the referral link takes you to, you will see it says earn 80k points and then +25k points.
Amex have, for some reason, suspended my eligibilty to ‘refer a friend’. I contacted Amex ‘chat’ and spent about two hours trying to chat because each time that I tried to input a question or answer of any length I lost the connection and had to start again. I then phoned Brighton and spoke with first a call centre receptionist who couldn’t tell me why I had lost the eligibility and then I spoke to a manager. This manager informed me that ‘the system’ had decided to suspend my eligibility and that no one at Amex would be able to answer my question because no one could access the relevant information no matter who I talked to.
So I wrote to Amex with the same question and received a telephone call to tell me that they would look into it. That was a week ago with no progree.
The reson that I have written this is that since Christmas 2022 I have been trying to persuade a couple of friends that the Platinum card would be useful to then and, just a week ago, one of the friends asked me to refer them.
It might be a good idea for all Amex card holders to check their ‘refer a friend’ eligibility because it appears that it takes a long time before Amex are prepared to take any action if, indeed, they are prepared to take any action.
There has been no change, as far as I am aware, in my account and no late or underpayments!
@eppleby this has been quite widely reported on HfP and many people are seemingly precluded from referral bonuses. Amex has also been declining referral bonuses when the referee is not eligible for SUBs, a change on previous policy.
The cost of referrals, SUBs and retentions has skyrocketed, so there has been some tightening at the margins.

Why doesn’t Amex tell customers? If I’d have known then I wouldn’t have put myself out!
Here is the thread link:
The view was it was either some IT error or Amex were varying who was allowed to refer in a similar manner to how we don’t get all Amex offers.
I had the ability to refer removed which was of little concern other than the deep shame it caused me. However it was no skin off my nose and without doing anything it was reinstated several months later. Since then they seem to have been pushing me to refer with enhanced referral bonuses.
As I have no friends I have nobody to refer so it doesn’t make any difference to me.

Perhaps I don’t have any friends, now!
Do you have a referral link that you saved previously – maybe you sent one to a friend a while ago? I’ve not tried it myself but I’ve read on here previously that an old link will still work. If you do, let us know how you get on.
Is my wife allowed to refer me for the Platinum Card, even though we are both active Amex cardholders already. I want to maximise my points but don’t want to fall foul of Amex rules.

I’ve done it before, and received the points for it, even though my wife was not eligible for a bonus being an existing Amex cardholder. This was more than a year ago, though. We also always add each other as supplementary cardholders on each others cards for the extra points (don’t request at the application stage, but add after using the link you can find online).

It is a bit odd… I have referred two existing cardholders in the last round of 18,000 enhanced offer for me, one applied immediately and I got the points 2 days later. The other applied closer to the deadline and the points never arrived.. after chasing it for weeks, I was finally told that as the friend did not qualify for a SUB, I would also not get my referral points…
@Luca M, I guess it would make sense not to give referral bonuses to existing cardholders, but I don’t think it says anywhere in the terms that to get referral points, the referee must be eligible for the SUB, so it might be that the link didn’t track. I’d also take what Amex chat say with a pinch of salt, as they can often make things up. Just the other day, they told another poster that they had withdrawn the Gold to Plat upgrade offer, but I signed up the next day using the link!
