I just read on Travelling for Miles that Qatar are changing aircraft without necessarily informing passengers, even if you have an existing seat reservation. It transpires my QR5 has changed from a 777-300 to an A350-900, which I’m actually very pleased about. Thankfully, my QR10 remains an A380. It may be worth checking your booking, but TfM’s article was helpful (he only discovered the change while happening to be looking at his booking) and it was backed up by both Expert Flyer and Qatar itself within ‘manage my booking’ – but only once I checked!
I posted about this recently, I don’t think there’s any obligation to notify of equipment changes though, unless there’s also a time change. I had selected exit row seats and QR had moved us to separate 2 rows in different sections of the cabin! I understand that such shenanigans are typical of QR …
Hppens all the time on most if not all airlines. I’m travelling on Brussels tomorrow and I got a notice of equipment change yesterday afternoon. Moved from an F seat to an A seat a couple of rows back so not too bothered.
I have an upcoming 4 part itinerary on QR, and at the time of booking all 4 were somewhat impressively on 4 different types of wide body. Only 1 was a Q suite, which has since been swapped out 🙁
I recently travelled LHR-DOH-BKK / SIN – DOH – LHR in business class October . When booked all 4 flights were meant to be Q Suite . Ended up only having 1 sector on the Q suite , all 3 were on the 2-2-2 config which are the prehistoric business seats , if I had paid for the tickets I would of been furious, however I used points .. agents at doh said it’s been happening a lot recently .. they are often using the 777-300 which hasn’t been refurbished on the London routes (and Bangkok)
You can and absolutely should request a charge to an alternative service with Qsuite.
QR only fly one Qsuite service doh-Kul per day and I’ve lost count of the number of times in the past year they’ve changed with less than 24 hours notice.
Every time I request to be moved to the MH flight (before their catering meltdown). A couple of the changes have been points bookings. The call centre agents will try to give you some excuses, but persevere and they’ll make the change.
