Qatar Airways – Avios flight redemptions not possible on partner airlines

Does anyone have any experience redeeming avios on flights with Qatar partner airlines? I’ve just been told by 2 separate Qatar live chat agents that it’s not possible. This seems to contradict Qatar’s own website, as well as HfP articles and various other frequent flyer blogs. I just had a call from a Qatar rep (in response to negative feedback I gave the chat agents) who gave me categoric assurances that it’s only possible to earn with partner airlines, and not to redeem. Does anyone know any different?
You need to fill in the online form and wait for them to get back to you to confirm.
Strongly recommend looking up availability via another partner airline before making a request though.
I have SGN-HKG booked with Cathay using Avios through Qatar. I tried the form which looked long-winded and slow, spoke to them on chat, they provisionally booked it, disconnected the chat and called me for payment.

That seems so backwards. Why wouldn’t they make it easier/more convenient to book partner awards? (Currently also looking to book a OW partner award with Avios and trying to figure out which airline would be best doing so i.e. BA, Iberia or Qatar)

Newbie error! The Qatar reps all said there’s no problem redeeming with Oneworld members, it’s the non-Oneworld partner airlines which they say are earning-only. I found the online form Raffles mentions; frustrating that it doesn’t state the taxes and charges upfront and nor does it indicate how many seats might be available. Hopefully they will improve these processes at some point
