Well, I eventually got booked. Availability suddenly disappeared though, so had a bit of a nightmare.

In my haste to book, I didn’t select a seat there and then, as thought I could go back in and do it (that’s what it said I could do on Qatar website). However, when I go into manage my booking, there doesn’t seem to be an option to pick seats, and it just says seating not selected. I’ve tried downloading the app and got the same problem.

Does anyone have any ideas, or do I need to call Qatar?

Do you not even have the option to pay for a seat via MMB in the app? I used the in app chat to ask QR to amend my booking so I could get free seat selection as BA Silver, but I was being given the option to pay.

    Nope, nothing.

Weirdly, the Qatar flights I booked through the BA website I’ve been able to use the PNR on the Qatar website and select seats with no issue at all. It’s the ones I booked on the Qatar website itself that I can’t do it. The only button I can find is modify seat selection, but when I click on it it just scrolls up to the top of the page. Same with the app. Most annoying.

As long as you have e-tix and PNR you can put your mind at ease as you’ve made it through the hardest bit. You can add booking code (presumably you booked it via BA and flying on QR metal) to your QR account. I prefer QR chat to get things sorted as you get a copy of your communication to your email. Check Aeroloopa for preselection of seats that suit your needs and then it should be 5mins job for an agent on chat

I keep checking QR reward seats on a daily basis. Only today they released tons of award seats for a standard Avios pricing incl Tokyo, Cape Town, Bali,Brisbane, New York etc. Checked departures from Vienna (my nearest airport served by QR) for October 2024. I think it is another QR IT glitch rather than a promo or a return of old good times when you could get standard (not double) Avios/Qmiles awards anytime and anywhere.

What’s your go-to approach to do that? Are you looking at very specific routes and dates? Short of tapping through individual dates one day, one route at a time on BA, I can’t see a good way of doing this.

Yes, tidious searching every route every suitable date. 30 day calendar is more confusing than helpful. Sometimes you see Q2 flag but that applies only to eco and not C fares… meaning on some dates Avios redemption for eco costs the same Avios like C…. Sorry. If rhere was an easier way I would happily share.

You can try searching using alaska air website for individual sectors. Very easy to use, don’t even have to login. Match up the sectors you want then book via either BA/QR. Only issue is you can only view 330 days ahead I think. I believe you can see availability in AA too but not tried it myself

My issue with seat booking resolved itself yesterday. Two days after I made my booking directly on the Qatar website, I checked yesterday, and the modify seat button re-appeared. It finally let me select seats. No idea why it didn’t work when I booked on the 16th, yet the booking made on the same day via the BA website did, but glad all my seats are sorted.

Thanks again @fasul for all your help and bringing it to our attention.

@Dave1234 thank you for Alaska suggestion

I’m booked economy but in the peak Aug I think it’ll be easier to find hens teeth than get in the Q suite.

Awesome, @Dave1234. The Alaska search has a nice calendar view that lets you filter for business class if there are any seats in a month. You quickly confirm Avios on BA. Doing that I can see plenty of options for LON-BNE which was my test.

Has anyone tried booking 2-4-1 return to Doha and adding a Qatar redemption on the same booking? Would BA interline bags if it was one booking? What if it was two bookings?

Would BA interline bags if it was one booking? What if it was two bookings?

I think the overwhelming consensus here and on FT is that BA won’t interline / check bags through with anyone.

How about the other way? Are Qatar more flexible?

Just weighing up options and need for staying in Doha or ensuring plenty of connection time to recheck bags.

QR always interline for us when checking in in Asia. Through to Dublin or wherever is our end destination. Usually onto separate PNRs onwards. So l think you will be ok….QR to BA connection that is.

They won’t even through-check two bookings when both flights are with BA.
