Booked 2 in J to MEL at 90,000 each for 8th December 2024. Booked on 19 December 2023 at 14:12. I guess that’s 355 days?
Sorry if this is a triple message, seems like I submit but doesn’t show on the forum for me, I was aggressively refreshing at midnight to try catch the flights but with no luck, seems like it really is random and would be nice for some transparency from QR. For 360 days before the flight day it does seem to work for me but is quite a buggy as well. Seems troublesome to even try and book it
Funnily enough booking one leg LHR – DOH shows as available for normal pricing business but for some reason when trying to do a return shows as occupied, what a scam
It’s just impossible lately (IME). I’ve pretty much given up hope. I look 5x a day from every dep in UK and prob 90% of them in Europe to BNE and SYD for dates from mid Aug-early Sept 24. I actually can travel from Aug-Sept 8th. I’ve not found a single normally priced QR J class redemption once during all those hours of searching. I’ve decided if I want to go Oz next Autumn it’ll have to be on BA, using 2-4-1. 😞

I don’t think Qatar ever release normal redemption tickets during mid July to early Sep. I spent whole last year searching for this summer. The latest I can book is 6th July which is the last day of my son’s school so I booked it.
I just booked 3 tickets to Melbourne from MAN next August with x2 Avios. I know it’s terrible deal but less stressful searching and at least all of us could travel together.

Can you teach us how to time travel?
How can you tell if a redemption is x2 or not?
I’ve been looking at Manchester to Perth which came in at 360,000. This seemed steep, however the BA equivalent (which isnt available BTW) is London – Singapore – Sydney which is 110,000 + 80,000 – so a total of 380,000 and i would then need domestic travel to get over to Perth. On this basis its seems like 360,000 is very good – especially starting in Manchester.
Yes that’s double. There’s a little flag shows against the relevant flight that says 2Q I think. So if it’s only on one cabin, you can see it there. However the pricing is mad. I have to get from LCA to the UAE. Managed to get a standard priced award for 40k. Some flights were 2x on the short hop in the gulf. That pushed the overall price up to 77k Avios.
Note that the fees on Qatar bookings are also typically much cheaper than BA.
LCA to UAE with avios 40k?
One way yes – plus about £150 in taxes. Cheapest cash ticket I could find was £800 on Gulf via BAH, or over £2k on EK/EY
And one of those cases where being an award ticket works well because I’ve been able to shift the date for just $25.
I’m seeing at times availability on the two legs if booked individually but not when searching as one. How risky is it to book separately and hope QR allows check through? 2hr transit period with infant in tow… I would ordinarily accept spending a night in doha but not acceptable this time round.
Further complicating this, what about booking one leg on BA and one on QR site? Advantage of potentially using one of the BA vouchers for the Lon-doh leg
If you book BA -> Qatar on separate tickets there is zero chance BA will through-check your bags.
The reverse might work, most airlines do it.
If you’re in business, with a full size carry on, and a full size “underseat”, you can manage HBO, unless you have sports/specialist equipment.
Laundry — and indeed clothes shops — are available at your destination.
Do not try and collect your bags and recheck same day at Doha. There is no amount of time that’s sufficient. Even HBO be warned that Qatar make schedule changes frequently, and if you have two tickets you have no protection against that.
Thanks! A hard no then. Have found a flight from BHX that works (Jan to KUL) although its a 787 on both legs. Need to convince OH that this is plausible and will save £1200 vs paying 2x from LON. Alternative is using virgin points on KLM for 112k/person. First time flying with a little one so was thinking qsuite would be ideal.
A word of warning. The BHX departure experience may be somewhat challenging. The place is in disarray again and it’s set to last until next summer. Sunday morning in mid-May, I waited 30 mins to get through Fast Track as the policy seemed to be at 1hr before departure they were pulling any pax left in the regular line into fast track, oblivious to the implication this had on anyone who was in that line and cutting it a bit fine.
Once through you do however get access to Clubrooms – the second best lounge at BHX after the Emirates one, and very convenient for the QR gate.

The priority lane is a joke.
Couple, of weeks ago, half the passengers somehow accidentally ended up in it.
The bloke from Dudley who was allegedly in charge of enforcing it really couldn’t care less.
Pretty much:
“orright cocker, whem yo goo-in? am ya in the fast lane? am ya? arrrr”EDIT: before someone has a fit, I live within 50 miles so it’s all OK.

Hopefully they provide interpreters for those who don’t speak the lingo. I’m sorry to have missed you on a visit to Stourbridge last week.
There was talk above about married segments.
Not sure I understood that correctly, but I am searching for DOH-MEL and there’s either nothing available or only at 2 x avios. However, if I search DOH-ADL it shows 1 x availability and the flight stops at Melbourne enroute to Adelaide.
Can I jump out at Melbourne? There was talk above about married segments.

Can I jump out at Melbourne?of course, HBO
So far September is proving to be even worse than June, July and August. Now Y is typically 2x avios and J and F are generally unavailable. Now considering one way revenie fares from AMS, BRU etc as an alternative.
I think I’m probably the queen of stupid questions, so apologies in advance.
If I am fortunate enough to find two avios seats available on a Qatar flight and want to book through their website rather than BA, can I use my avios to book flights for both myself and my husband?
We’ve both got enough avios individually that we could do it this way round (so one of us books both outbound flights, and the other books both the inbound flights), but just wanted to check this was allowed. Didn’t know if they had a weird rule that you can only use avios to book for yourself.
Yes you can, I have done this! Just input your husband’s details as the 2nd passenger.

Thanks Anna. Now just trying to open an account and navigate the whole double barrelled surname thing. I know back when they were first linking with BA that this caused a problem, I’m sure I read that this is now sorted (but can’t find where I read it even though I’m sure it was on here somewhere).
Can I jump out at Melbourne?
This is a relatively high stakes game and I don’t think i’d engage with it. Very surprised no one else has waded in.
Ultimately when they do a head count before departure from MEL, they’re going to be 1 pax short. So they have to do a whole reconciliation to find you don’t have a case in the hold and a security sweep to make sure you haven’t left anything on board.
But before that, could an eagle eyed member of crew who knows you’re booked to ADL stop you? Or is there some process at MEL (I’m guessing because there will have to be a crew change for the tag on flight, everyone gets off) to make sure that you’re in the right group?
And that’s assuming you accept you absolutely can’t do this with a suitcase in the hold.
Lots of unknows with downsides ranging from rolled eyes to your return flight being cancelled or you being hauled over the coals for delaying a flight for 2 hrs. And I suspect QR’s lawyers are better resourced than any defence you would have.
Very well summarised @The real Swiss Tony! When I first read it, I thought the idea was so asinine, I ignored it. In addition to all the points you make, the Australian authorities are extremely punctilious and will not appreciate this sort of thing.
In April I travelled on the non-stop DOH-ADL flight which continued on to AKL. Everyone had to disembark and as we approached the immigration area, transfer pax were sent to the right and there were QR and border staff checking who went where.
It doesn’t take long to find the 1x fares and combine them
Have you actually read the comments from those who have been searching for a long time on this thread and on other threads?
Your individual experience is the exception.I had read the comments and no one (including you in your posts) had made the very useful point I was making, that searching sector by sector is quicker and easier for finding Qatar 1x availability, and combing them once found is quick and easy. Selectively quoting my final statement to obscure my point is rather pathetic, especially from someone making stupid and unhelpful statements like Qatar lies about availability, even though you have found so easy to make bookings you even forgot about all the ones you have!
