Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes QR A380 economy – seat suggestions?

  • 31 posts

I appreciate that this is not strictly a loyalty based question and most people on here don’t do economy but I thought that I would try asking the question anyway. Apologies if I shouldn’t have.

We are flying to Asia via Doha later this year, 3 legs of our return journey will be on A380 planes (unless QR decides to switch them). I was considering paying for seat selection but was unsure which seats were good to have.
Most things I’ve found online suggest using the economy cabin upstairs but, as there will be 3 of us and the upstairs configuration is 2-4-2 I’m not sure that’s best for us.

On a seat map row 40 (front row downstairs) looks interesting but I’m not sure what it actually works out like in practice. Does anyone have any experience with this row or can suggest something else?

Thanks for any assistance available and, again, apologies if I shouldn’t have asked the question here.

40 HJK are away from the loo.

Not sure if you get disturbed by cabin crew going up and down the staircase.

Thanks Richie, yes HJK do seem to be a better option than ABC.

No idea how often crew go up and down the stairs or if it’s any worse than having them go past you in the aisle anywhere else in economy.

Difficult to tell from a seat map how big the space is between the front row of seats and the toilet and whether it’s likely to get busy with people standing around waiting.

Consider upper deck row 30 DEF, if seat G is occupied person in seat F can get out easyish because of extra legroom.

How long is the longest flight sector?

If there are 2 of you travelling, a pair of seats beats a 3 where you could end up with anyone sitting next to you for several hours!

We had the exit row pair DOH-MAN, awesome amount of personal space. It wasn’t an A380, though, so I don’t know if it translates exactly.

Upstairs is much smaller than the sprawling downstairs and has dedicated crew. 3 people occupying window, aisle and aisle shouldn’t be too bad and if you’re lucky you may not have anyone next to you. Obviously, the upstairs is more popular because it is a smaller cabin. Possibly the “worst” aspect is the ability to peer into the business bar, but not access it!

Each sector is approximately 7 hours

I did look at those seats and they were looking like a decent option but I would have to be prepared to put up with a stranger sitting next to me (it’s bound to be me in the stranger-adjacent seat)

Yes upstairs is a no brainer if there are 2 of you but, as I mentioned in my initial post, we are a party of 3

If you aren’t bothered about extra legroom, 67 EFG might be ok.

There are some youtube videos on the subject which may help a bit.

Sorry, I missed that tucked away in the 2nd paragraph! Probably any exit/bulkhead after that then.

I had a look on YouTube but I could only really find ones about the upper deck. I’ll take another look though.

I think that if we don’t want extra legroom then I would probably just go for a row of 3 at either side of the main deck – with a window seat.

    Thanks for your input

Hey, it’s easily done – I definitely wasn’t having a pop at your response.

I appreciate that any of the bulkhead ones would have similar legroom but I was wondering about row 40 as it isn’t in a bassinet row. The other extra legroom seats look like they would be adjacent to a bassinet middle row with the potential risk that brings. I am not anti baby on flights but, ideally, they wouldn’t be near me – especially on an overnight flight 😂

Thanks for your help and advice, it is much appreciated
