Four tickets in premium booked in July 23 to travel LHR TLV in May 24 with Virgin points. These were cancelled by VS.
Just phoned to rebook travel for May 26. VS agent escalated and advised ticket expired in Jul 24, so cannot be rebooked. The agent advised onus is on the passenger to have called before the ticket expired (Jul 24) to discuss rebooking options. So the only option is a refund.
As an aside, May half term is the only period we would consider travelling to TLV. Any advice on relevant legislations and corroborative explanations that would facilitate a re-booking when I email the executive team? Thanks.
@Gary – I think VS is technically/legally correct so resolution via the EO is going to be as a matter of goodwill rather than statute so should be handled accordingly. It’s additionally problematic now that VS has cancelled the route. I’m not sure that El Al offers premium economy on this route which creates another issue for VS which won’t wish to be paying downgrade compensation on top of everything else.
The issue of ticket validity came up regularly during Covid and from cases that went to ADR or MCOL a pattern emerged that made it clear that rerouting rights are not unlimited and don’t simply offer an open ticket that can be rebooked at some unspecified date in the distant future, notwithstanding the “at the passenger’s convenience” provision. There was also a distinction drawn between rerouting/rebooking a cancelled trip and attempting to rebook for an entirely different trip.
Some give what I consider to be highly erroneous advice that one can just leave a cancelled flight booking to fester and call months later to rebook but many that try this are sorely disappointed and here, leaving it so long that the route subsequently got cancelled speaks for itself.
I think your prospects at arbitration or the County Court are quite poor so it’s really a matter of seeing if you can plead with VS.
