I have a flight from Edinburgh to Heathrow one Sunday in April next year on BA 1463 that has been brought forward by 1 hour and 45 minutes, which is enough of a change to affect our plans for the day but under the two hour window that would facilitate a free change. The original flight time was 20:20 with arrival into Heathrow at 21:45. Ticket is HBO economy, so no flexibility.
At the same time as making this change BA has inserted another flight (BA 1451) into the schedule at the exact same time as my original flight, departing 20:20 with arrival into Heathrow at 21:45.
I spoke to an agent who said that there was nothing that they could do to switch me to the flight with the same times as my original flight.
Does this sound right? Is this just one of those unfortunate things that happens and you have to suck up or do you think I just got an inflexible agent?
I wouldn’t worry for a good few months.
There will more than likely be numerous schedule changes in the coming months so I’d just want and see how that plays out as they could be in your favour.
If there is an option to accept this change don’t use it or even change seats.
If it’s convenient enough to still work with your plans, you could wait until the day, then change the flight online (don’t check in first) if there’s availability on a different time flight. Being so far out I’d agree with just sit and wait, it’ll probably change again before you get there…

No same day change with a HBO economy fare (which the OP has). Economy plus yes but not basic.
Ta for the steer. I’ll hang in there and see what further schedule changes might come my way!
Same for me although it extends a 2.5hr connection to not quite 4.5hrs and made the departure from EDI earlier. BA ‘offered’ to change it for £35 (x 4 people).
I’d leave it for a week or so to give time for the Summer 24 schedule changes to settle down; if you have other flights in the booking they could change enough to enable you to make free changes (you can change both inbound and outbound FOC if either changes).
If not, call back and push the point that you simply want your original timings restored and ask to speak to supervisor if agent can’t or won’t make changes.
Failing that, there’s a decent chance there will be more changes between now and when you fly so all is not lost.
