Hi
I have just had a 2-4-1 redemption canceled for January and the alternative date is not acceptable to us.
I can see online how I can charge the dates but only to same destination. We are looking to change the destination and keep same dates. Still something in Europe. Is this possible online or do I need to call.
You’d only be able to change the destination if it falls within BA’s 300 mile policy, otherwise it would be a change or cancel/rebook and incur the usual fees (plus you would need award availability). You usually need to call for this.
If there’s good avios availability for your new destination and you don’t want to call, you could just cancel online and wait for the voucher to come back – should be fairly quick. Though don’t do this if your 241 has expired in the meantime, you’ll need another strategy!

Thanks for this I didn’t know about 300 mile policy. We were going to ALC and most new destinations we are considering are further than 300 miles
Award bookings have the same protection as other cancellations – so you’d be entitled to a re-route to ALC but moving to another destination would depend on BA’s own policies and occasional goodwill.
You can always try your luck on the phone, you might get a very accommodating agent. Obviously don’t accept a straight refund if your voucher has expired or you decide you do actually want to go to ALC!
As long as your trip is after the schools go back in January I would have thought there would be decent availability for other European destinations, should you decide to accept a refund and start over with a new booking. The usual “don’t accept a refund” advice you see here usually refers to cash fares where replacements are very expensive and award seats with little alternative availability.
