Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

So was on the phone last night trying to book 4 CW seats back from MLE having been able to get the outward 10 days ago online

I am using 2 companion vouchers to do this

Last night the seats went while I was on the phone after 20 mins – will phone earlier tonight as I started the call at 11 45

I did see this on a HFP 2 4 1 guide and wanted to confirm it works – as I think I ‘might’ have had time to book them on the web

if you have enough Avios, book your return seats online using 100% Avios (ie paying for both tickets in full) and then call BA at your convenience to get half of the Avios for the return leg refunded.

    Any help appreciated !

    Hi, this does indeed work.

I’ve done it myself a few times previously and I plan to do it in a week or so as I’ve just booked outbound flights to the Caribbean. My plan is to book the 4 seats with Avios once released and then have them combined the next day for a refund of 50% Avios.

I’m not sure if there are tax refunds due with recent changes, will find out in a week I guess.

A few data points on this.
It is still possible to do this but some agents have been refusing recently so you may have to HUACA.
The bookings are not combined so you will still be left with 2 PNRs.
No “taxes” are refunded when you do this so make sure it works for you in terms of cash outlay. However following the recent changes to reward bookings this may not be an issue any more.

For my bookings, using 2 x companion vouchers, it is 200,00 Avios and £900 each way. I’ve booked the outbound and waiting to book the inbound.

I’ll book the inbound for 400k Avios then hope to have 200k refunded afterwards.

If I land at 400k Avios and £1800 for 4 x Club return at Christmas to/from the Caribbean, I’m more than happy with that.
