Discuss today's stories:
Have been rejected twice in last year or so for Amex Plat. High earnings, no debt but possibly rejected due to previous multiple withdrawals of cash abroad on other credit cards. Anyway… if my daughter applies for Amex Plat and nominates me as supplementary, what risk that will screw up her application, or that she will be accepted but asked to choose a different supp ?
Thanks
When you’re a supp, they only check to verify you exist rather than a hard credit check (AFAIK), so you should find you’ll be accepted just fine if she gets the card. Note you don’t qualify for all the same benefits as a main cardholder but you do get most.
The main card holder remains responsible for any spend on the card so they’re pretty relaxed about supps.
Don’t request a supplementary card during her application, as that will delay things. You can also request a supplementary card after she has received her card, and get 5k MR bonus for doing so.

Thanks all. Hadn’t realised the point about 5k bonus for adding later.
I have a trip to Japan and Australia beginning 4th November. Tight timescale to get primary applicant approved and then separately add supp card holder. Am looking at policy now, but do you know off top of head if travel insurance covers the remainder of a trip already begun at the point where I become the supplementary card holder ?

FWIW I wouldn’t say its tight. Player 2 applied in the morning and got the card the next day (first class post), then we applied for the supp and the card was there within 2 days.
Will let someone else opine on the travel insurance.
Actually deadline may be expiry of cooling off period for Barclays travel insurance I took out: that’s 7 days away…
Answering my own q. re cover for remainder of a trip already begun, I have combed through the policy document here:
This is the key provision (p.19):
“DURATION OF COVER
You are entitled to the insurance benefits under the Policy from the moment the Card is activated and for as
long as the eligibility criteria stated at the beginning of these Policy Terms and Conditions continue to be met
or until We withdraw or cancel the insurance benefits by notice to You”
Cover applies to “Trips” but nothing I can see says a “Trip” must have begun before the Card is activated or, for example, that you have to be in the UK at the commencement of cover. (Un)Happy to be corrected…
