I don’t think I will hold my US Platinum until for a second year.
Do you have any other US cards, Amex or otherwise? You’ll find that earnings rates are much better on US card products generally. That said, the UK Amex Platbl has some good features for UK residents that I don’t believe are on the US card, such as travel insurance and free guests on PP. If you can, I recommend maintaining some US card.
I have some former colleagues (in finance — go figure) who put all of their non-GBP spend through US cards (Amex or otherwise), as they either had enough USD income or low enough FX costs, and enough spend, that the greater earnings on the premium US cards were highly beneficial to them.
I used to hold both, exactly for the reasons @CamFlyer mentions. Over time, though, the value of the US Platinum became harder to justify…
Why not? Worst case scenario cancel it after getting the sign up bonus and the statement credits.
