Hello all,
I have booked 2 one way tickets to Singapore in CW from London in October using the Barclaycard upgrade voucher. I naively thought that my partner could use her upgrade voucher to book us the return flights from Singapore when availability popped up. However, it seems like the voucher is only valid for flights departing from the UK.
Just wanted to ask if anyone has ran in to a similar situation? Is there any way to still use my partner’s voucher for this trip? It looks like we’ll have to book the return without using it but thought I should check with the experts!
Thanks
No, all tickets using the Barclaycard voucher have to originate in the UK

Yep, makes the barclays voucher a bit less useful. your option is to cancel and rebook… but theres a risk to that obviously.
If you have other uses for your partner’s voucher, it would be a good opportunity to try a different airline on the return. We are doing LHR – DBX with an upgrade voucher then returning direct to MAN from DOH on QR which is more convenient for us.

Thanks for your reply. Is your return possible? My understanding was that the Barclays upgrade voucher had to be for flights departing from the UK.
They are. The return leg is on Qatar Airways (QR). Hence my point about trying a different airline!

And not using the voucher of course since that’s only for BA redemptions anyway…
We did similar with a one-way outbound booking to Singapore using a Barclays voucher. In our case we’re flying back from Phuket with QR, which was more Avios than it would have cost to fly back from Singapore with an upgrade/2for1 voucher on BA but less cash. Taking into account the costs and hassle of repositioning back to Singapore, it made more sense – and an excuse to try out QR business class (and hopefully QSuite).
In theory you could have used both vouchers from the start, one for each return. However I’m not sure how adding the return leg later works with the Barclaycard and whether you have the same options as you do with an Amex 2for1.
A one-way from Singapore (and other ‘nearby’ QR served airports including Phuket) is 75K Avios per seat in business class. Taxes and fees from Phuket were ~£163 each, although I think Singapore is a bit more.
If you fancy a night in Doha to break the journey there are some very good stopover hotel deals available.

Yes asked about phoning up to add on return or booking online and then phoning in to get 50% Avios back and no one seems to know
