Any news of another reward flight sale?

Wasn’t it around this time last year that there was a 50% off reward flight sale on Virgin Atlantic? Or am I mistaken and it was BA?

Anyway what’s the chance of another 50% off reward flight sale in the near future – maybe on January 1st?

Zero chance. The 50% reward flight sales were essentially airlines taking interest free loans from customers at a time when cash burn was high & income zero. Just look at BA’s behaviour with cancelled flights on these bookings – they’re trying their best to force everyone to take a refund rather than rescheduling. Clearly they would only do this if they believe they can resell that seat for a higher price.

If there are any similar promotions it will be for redemptions that don’t make financial sense even with the discount eg. Low season economy redemptions to NYC where you can already buy a cash ticket for less than the redemption fees.
