Forums Payment cards Other payment cards Santander World Elite Mastercard set up as ‘World’ card

I recently got the Santander World Elite Mastercard. In all Mastercard side services this shows up as a ‘World’ level card and leads to them blocking some services on Priceless.com and other sites.

Unfortunately nobody at Santander even understands the question of whether this means the card is setup wrongly or if that is actually the level Santander pays for. Does anyone have any experience to let me know if this is a problem with just my card or the programme in general?

Basically MasterCard World Elite and Visa Premium/Signature are just marketing names which offer no unique or tangible benefits.

Yes, I sort of gathered as much and I really only got the card to extend Lounge Pass to the additional cardholders.

It was one of those situations where, when I just wanted to confirm if what I was seeing was normal and when I spoke to Santander I got in to an ever increasing spiral of statements from call-centre staff that included: “We just call it World Elite and it is a coincidence that Mastercard have something called that” and “Mastercard World Elite Privileges refers to the 40% discount on Santander travel insurance”

@GeoffGeoff that sounds like normal the credit card call centre make it up as you go along stuff. I think that the Santander lounge access comes via LoungeKey anyway (same as HSBC Premier) so not really anything to do with World Elite which unsurprisingly has a TM, so they talking rubbish about it being their made up name as well!
