Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Schoolboy error – hotel booking via “BA”

The Hotel would have to offer me a discount of more than 25% to beat the deal I’m getting.

This reads like you haven’t even tried….

Tell me. If you were staying at a hotel with a rack rate of £80 a night, what level of discount would you be aiming for?[/quote
I would be asking them to beat what I have seen elsewhere. And you have already spelt out what there is to beat.

I’ve recently booked our summer trip to a hotel in Greece, which is part of a group of 5 hotels. We’ve been a few times and love it.

By far the cheapest price is via Lastminute.com. I asked the hotel if they could match that price, as they said they have a repeat customer discount, but even with that discount they couldn’t get near the price even before I factor in the cashback I will in theory get through tcb.

So my question is, what’s going on here? Have they bulk sold rooms to lastminute?

I think the OTA’s bulk book rooms and can therefore offer a competitive price. I imagine they say they will fill 20 or 30 rooms etc, and it’s probably difficult for the hotels even directly meet/improve on those prices for one off bookings.

Ohh that makes sense Misty. I was wondering if I should try again closer to the time. I just don’t really trust lastminute…

I’m a sceptic too. Don’t really trust any of them, but there is not much option unless you book with the likes of TUI or Jet2.

I remember on another forum folk who booked via OTA’s 6 months on advance used to contact the hotels after booking, and ask for special requests. Then they would panic as the hotel knew nothing about them. It’s because the OTA’s don’t send their manifest off until about two weeks before people travel.

Apologies I must have clicked the report button by mistake.

Same here, Avios Hotels reliably posts. When hotels.com had decent rewards*, it was my go-to, but now I choose between BA Avios, hotels.com and booking.com depending upon price and Avios return.

    * I won’t have enough stays to complete a reward before it all gets killed.

Rubbish..its not going to get killed…where do you get that idea/rumour from ?

Alex G, on this forum a few months ago I posted about a repeatable example where the price was higher if I started my journey with the eStore. And in this thread we have an example cited of differential pricing for app users which cannot be integrated with an eStore journey.

Just because they don’t do it every time, it doesn’t mean they don’t ever do it. I’ve earned more than 100,000 Avios with hotels com in the past few years, and I have learned to watch them like a hawk.

Agree – pricing often varies based on entry point. Not for every property, or all the time, but it’s always worth checking the ‘all in price’ after taking account of cash/points back. This happens across lots of shopping sites.

It’s been reported on here that Expedia and aligning to one reward scheme that’s a lot less rewarding. The USA hotel.com has already moved over .

Just seen a handy “For every £1 spent at Avios Hotels, get 5 bonus Avios” offer on the BAPP. Spend by 18 May.
