Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Seat Reservation on UK positioning flight when First on International flight

I know this is a minor issue but:-
We have a trip booked next year flying Newcastle to Heathrow then onward to Chicago in 1st.
We can book the LHR-ORD seats now as they are 1st, but we can’t book the NCL-LHR seats as they are in Club Europe and I am only Bronze. Is this normal?
I know BA will try to squeeze every £ from me any way they can, but as both flights are booked as a single trip, I would expect that both flights would qualify for free advanced seat booking.

Since you are bronze you get free seat selection secen days before the club flight so BA won’t be squeezing anythign out of you for seat selection.

Given NCL-LHR is only around an hour I personally wouldn’t get to exercised over seats.

You’re in CE so will be reasonably near the front of the plane. I think it’s an IT issue as much as anything.

    Agree with both your comments.
I am not too bothered for such a short flight and will not ever pay for seat selection out of principle.
I just thought it was odd. I suppose I could call the YouFirst line to see if they can do it for me. Might give it a try when I have some time to spare.

I think it may well be normal. My husband has been in the same situation for a flight from France to LHR when connecting to a long haul flight in F.

Have done that same routing a few times now and its your status or lack of it that controls the NCL to LHR seat selection. As noted this is probably down to BA IT quirks.
I think it’s a pretty good bet you’ll be seated together but CE (and the flight) is often full whenever I fly the NCL-LHR route.
Enjoy Chicago, it’s a great city to visit.
