I was very well treated in the St Regis Singapore as a plat, but it is hard to recommend the location or hotel – it met expectations nothing more. On the other hand, I had a premium room at the Marina Bay Sands and it was exceptional, from the VIP check in, the upgrade, the views, the pool etc. Insanely big hotel though and easy to just be faceless number there. No points angle if I remember correct too

I’m going to the Mandarin Oriental tomorrow. After l spending what seemed an age deciding, I emailed Emyr. I’m quite impressed on what I was offered in comparison to the online rate. It seems I have ALOT of benefits

    I will report back.

I am getting similar rates for Four Seasons and Fairmont. Which hotel is better? We are 2 adults and 2 teens visiting Singapore for the first time in July. Thanks.

Can’t wait to hear about the re-vamp, Rich! Hope travel goes smoothly for you & the fam. Can’t remember how little your little one is, but the ArtScience museum is fantastic for all ages!

It was a few years ago now, but the MO certainly used to have THE best Sunday brunch.

We are also travelling to Singapore for 3 nights in August. Currently planning to book Fairmont Singapore. Anyone have any have any knowledge if this is a good hotel or better recommendations that would be comparably priced?

Great location, more of a “classic” than a stand-out, I’d say. We were v happy with the Hilton Orchard, but mainly because we wanted that location. The PanPac is lovely, especially if you have Club access.

Both the JEN hotels tend to be good re. quality/price ratio.

    True story @yorkshireRich

I tricked Mrs Froggee into agreeing to marrying me at the Mandarin Oriental.

I asked her if she fancied going shopping for an engagement ring the following day. She just heard the word “shopping” and got very excited and accepted with alacrity.

    Sucker!

Anyway, I’m a huge fan of the MO. I found it just worked for me albeit as a business hotel. I always slept well there, I found the breakfast spectacular, the staff attentive without being sucky-uppy, and the kicker is the one time they chose to upgrade me to a suite, they did so in front of a competitive colleague.

When the Singapore office of my former firm moved away from that locale, I tried the hotels that were on the new approved list and they all made me sad, the JW Marriott on Beach Road in particular just about made me puke in my mouth every time I stayed there and indeed got in the lift. So I did what any logical person would do and went back to the Mandarin Oriental. I even learned to like tunnelling underground through various shopping malls to get there.

I’ve not been there since pre Covid so it would make me sad if it has lost its shine. So please only post positive things about it!

    I will indeed.
I also tricked the Mrs into it. I took an engagement ring all around SE Asia in a Poundland carrier bag. I tried so hard to hide it as a surprise until the member of staff at MO said “congratulations on proposing to your good lady here in Singapore”. I quickly informed him I hadn’t do it yet then he tried apologising to her. She says to this day she didn’t hear him.

By the marina, I then dropped the engagement ring. Luckily there isn’t any gaps in the bridge. Anyway for that reason the MO is fondly in our hearts.

Lastly, it was half the price that it is now.

Good morning from Singapore. It’s approaching 7:40am I had an excellent sleep after arriving on the BA015 flight.

Am staying at The Fullerton and so far am impressed, not the cheapest at 700SGD (~£400) per night including breakfast, but very welcoming staff and love the room which overlooks the internal courtyard atrium. Staying on the 5th floor. Complimentary water and tea /coffee, very comfortable bed, stealable hangers and toiletries by Balmain and fantastic shower. Loads of storage in the entrance hallway.

Very easy to get here from the airport in an hour using the MRT from T3 accessible via the Skytrain from T1 – no need to buy tickets, just use contactless credit card, cost just 2SGD (~£1.60) per person. Easy 10min walk from Raffles Place station (Helps if you walk in the right direction when exiting the station but very helpful local pointed me in the right direction)

Had a quick snack at 10:45pm local time last night in the independently run bar in the hotel courtyard lobby. A pint of local draught beer, a 750ml bottle of Perrier, 12 hot lemon prawns, 2 duck spring rolls and hoisin sauce and some crispy chicken bites with a whiskey mayonnaise came to SGD112 all in (~£66 for 2 of us) so not cheap but convenient and delicious.

Currently enjoying a fantastic breakfast. Huge spread over several areas with a choice to suit Western or Asian palates.

And it passed my quality hotel test with the sweetest freshly squeezed to order orange juice – no pasteurised Tropicana here.

Two people on the egg station doing eggs to order. And everything constantly topped up. No empty food stations anyhere.

The only thing letting the side down is a self-serve coffee machine but the latte is definitely drinkable.

@AJA – just in case you missed it, Amex appear to have loaded an offer for £100 off £500 at Preferred Hotels. And the Fullerton is on the list.

So assuming you haven’t prepaid and you have an appropriate quota of Amex cards then you could be quids in,

@Froggee Thank you for that. Just saved the offer. Unfortunately only have one Amex card each between us but at least that’s £200 off. I owe you a beer!

I lime the hotel but the swimming pool is rather small. Disappointingly they have even fewer parasols than sunbeds (and not nany of them) so my plan of spending time by the pool before the sun goes down was rather scuppered. It is at least open until 10pm so may pop to the pool when the sun has disappeared.

Happy days on the £200. I’ll have a Tiger please. You might need to drink it for me though.

Amusingly the Fullerton stuck in my head when I looked at the list as my former, former boss always used to stay there. Hence I have never stepped foot in the place!

@Froggee I urge you to overcome your prejudice against the hotel next time you come to Singapore. It is a rather elegant oasis of air-conditioned calm from the 33 degrees heat and bustle outside.

If nothing else spend an hour in the bar sampling the whiskies (if that’s your thing). This from someone who is usually a G&T fan.

Enjoyed your Tiger by the way 🙂

I first visited the Fullerton when it was the GPO – to pick up my Poste Restante – not something the younger readers will be familiar with!

We have been in a few times since it became a hotel in particular for the brunch and last time we were there we stayed for a week in a Straits Heritage Suite with a balcony overlooking the river.

I’m afraid it will be 1,600 square feet of serviced apartment when we visit albeit for not too much more per night than the Fullerton is costing you. I might take Kermit for some whisky though – never too early!
