Slightly confused – newbie – gold vs platinum

Hi,

I won’t get much value of the extras that come with the Amex platinum and I am trying to maximise sign up bonuses.

With the platinum card, is it possible to sign up, spend the £10k in 6 months then cancel the card and keep the points to convert in future, therefore halving the fee paid from £650 to £325?

Or have I got that wrong.

Yes, apart from the bit about keeping the points. You either need to transfer them out, or hold a MR-earning Amex (doesn’t have to be the Platinum) to retain your MR points account.
