Hi, I guess not many data point for such but I was looking to book 1 night, 2 rooms, costing £279.70. I try to choose this extra point offer (3000 points for £20) but it still does not pass that £300.00 threshold. Anyone in the past managed to get the credit from amex with 30 pence (as an example) short in spending? I hope this makes sense.
Also does cumulative spending qualify for this offer normally? I could try to do multiple bookings instead.

No, but I have bought a packet of peanuts in the bar to clear an Amex hurdle. Just pay for everything on checkout in one transaction.
+1, just add something to take you over the £300 – Amex will not credit you the £75 if you don’t reach the minimum spend.
@memesweeper that’s very smart indeed. I’d be able to do that but unfortunately my stay is a couple days after the 9/6/2023 which is the cut off date for this offer. So I have to call in to the hotel asking them to charge my card. I don’t think they will charge more than what has been booked. I will give it a try anyway. 🙂
Depending on the hotel type you may be able to pre-book dinner in the reservation, or when you ring ask about flowers/chocolates in the room on arrival or similar.
May be easier to pop into another qualifying hotel and have a coffee in the bar.
I had one last year where I was £75 short of triggering £100 cashback. I thought another trip would come up but didn’t. I should have blown another £75 on the original stay!
Hi
I have phoned hotels in advance in the past and asked to pay for the accommodation in full (even though it was a pay on departure booking). I have also asked to pay more and therefore be in credit, just so I can take advantage of the Amex cashback offer in terms of spend target and expiry. I’ve been lucky each time I’ve done this and not had any problems. Just remember to spend the money whilst at the hotel, as even a small refund to the card could take you below the threshold spend and trigger you paying back the cashback!
@Vit not weird at all to go to a hotel bar and buy a drink.

I had an IHG credit card free night at Cliveden last year which tied in with a Relais & Chateau Amex offer (£100 back on £250 I think). I thought my incidentals would take me over the threshold but annoyingly my wife checked out while I was loading car. Imagine my horror when I walked into reception & found her about to pay a bill that was £2 short of threshold.
I quickly asked if it was possible to grab a coffee to go- certainly sir was response & it appeared very quickly as I made small talk with receptionist. When I suggested adding to bill I was met with a smile & don’t worry about that sir. Clutching at straws I remembered seeing some books on Cliveden’s history displayed in foyer so quickly grabbed one thinking I’d salvaged myself but alas was met with another smile & it’s on us response. At this point I admitted defeat as felt I’d look like a scrounger if I asked for anything else!
(I’d already asked about gift vouchers at check in to use offer on supp card but they are only sold online)
In stores I have added a couple of plastic bags at 10p each to get me over a spending target, I guess that doesn’t work in hotels, but useful to bear in mind.
Lol, at the other end of the scale to Cliveden, I was £2 short at the Holiday Inn Ellesmere Port once – fortunately they have a tiny Starbucks selection at the bar so I just got 2 of their big chocolate coins!
On most hotel systems if you pre pay they’re just adding a deposit to your reservation to be applied to your final bill. So if you’re doing it manually then usually no problem at all to add a fixed amount more than the cost of the room (I imagine a large amount will raise eyebrows but if you explain why I doubt they’d care)

Should’ve just asked to add a £10 tip or been honest and told them you have a cc offer so rather pay.
Hi Vit.
If I’m right, you are EDI based? Go into Burr & Co. at the IC George for a coffee. I was there a couple of days ago and the receipt showed as being from the IC.
@Thegasman absolutely hilarious
