Had booked a return flight from GLA-LAX using the Barclay upgrade voucher with £450 payment, I thought it’s like a reward flight booking I would so would not get Avios (10423) and tier points (180) (1 way only posted at the moment as just got back yesterday)
Once (if) the return journey credits I will be on silver so a bonus as have a few flights booked over the next few months so will get lounge access (although do have BC+ so have dragon pass).
On another note, my return journey was delayed more than 3 hours and the missed connection was downgraded from CE to WT so going to look and see if I get anything back from them (technically I paid no more cash or avios for the Glasgow connection as called them to book).
Was my first CW flight and had mixed experience from the 2 flights but that’s a story for another time!
Sometimes happens! Whatever you do if it doesn’t happen for the way back don’t raise it with BA, I’ve seen reports that once you’ve got eyes on your account they fix these “bonus” ones instead of giving you the rest
I’ve had one too. Flew F to SCL at the weekend on a 2-4-1 and have received TP.
The flight was late and only just made it out before the 11.30pm jet curfew. I wondered if it was compo for being late or just a mistake!
See what happens on the return.
In passing I must say the F experience was excellent. Decent meal in the Concorde room beforehand and reasonable Kip on the flight. I did smile to myself on disembarking when I thought CW looked a bit cramped. Been spoilt now.
I heard once you go CW or First you are then ‘spoiled’
Depends heavily on a few things – the cabin type being a big one. Club World is no real difference to legacy J on lots of carriers, so this isn’t a differentiator. Club Suites is what CW should have been, in my view, a few years before it become available. Other carriers have better J products, and as an industry, F’s days look a little numbered longer term on anywhere as near as many routes as they have today.
Downgrade compensation is paid based on the relevant percentage of the pro-rata fare for the leg in question.
The fact that booking GLA-LAX cost the same number of points and taxes as LHR-LAX is immaterial; if you went on that basis, you’d have to pay extra when downgraded on most ex-EU fares! 😅
So in your case, presuming your itinerary was a simple GLA-LHR-LAX, by my calculations this is 11,602 miles in total, with the LHR-GLA leg constituting 345 miles or 2.974% of this.
As the total displacement was over 2500km on your return leg, you are due back 70% of the pro-rata fare for the downgrade. So that’s 2.082% of the fare paid, which would include the points used as well as carrier surcharges – though quite how they’re calculated on an Avios redemption like this, I don’t know – might be worth seeing if there’s a breakdown available on through the Finnair e-ticket tool.
Obviously either way this is likely to be a tiny amount and you will get far more by way of UK261 compensation (assuming the reason for the missed connection qualifies) and/or a load of Avios for service recovery.
As the downgrade was only on the domestic leg the reimbursement would be 30% of the cost of that leg.
Thanks guys, have submitted my claim via BA so will see what they come back with, might end up with more money back than what i paid!
Also on my account today now shows me as silver so buzzing for that as it applied avios and tier points on my LAX to LHR, nothing yet for the LHR-GLA. Now i can book my seats for free on my existing 2 bookings i have 😎

As the reimbursement for the downgraded domestic flight will be so little, yet you have benefitted from the Avios and tier points by mistake it seems incredibly unwise as it will cause someone to look at your account and potentially spot the error. The delay compensation is different.
Thanks JDB, have submitted the compensation claim yesterday but i did add a note about the downgrade unfortunately, hopefully they won’t see that part 🧐
Update –
BA emailed me last week to confirm that i am due £520 compo via UK261 law and will have it in my bank soon. They referred to the last leg downgrade to call up BA customer relations, but as a few suggested, best not rock the boat.
So minus the 95k avios and BC upgrade voucher the trip cost me -£75 (yes, minus, as ticket was £450 cash), not bad at all.
