Forums Payment cards American Express Swapping PRG For BAPP – retaining MR Points

  • 93 posts

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere but I couldn’t find it…

The OH is going to drop their PRG and take on a BAPP, with a view to getting another MR card with new SUB in a couple of years.

Does holding only a BAPP mean that the MR points currently held will need moving out before closing the PRG?

Or will the same account remain open (with static MR balance) and the BAPP registered against it, but earning Avios instead?

The BAPP and PRG are completely separate products. You can link them both to one account but there’s no overlap with the rewards. I think you might be able to move your MR points within a short period of cancelling, but I would always transfer them beforehand to avoid any problems. You can’t keep them indefinitely with no MR card.

Do you mean move them by converting to Avios? That would work but we’d like to keep them as MRs, if possible.

Does the ARCC exclude you from SUBs on future MR cards? If not, then I guess that would be the only option to retain the MRs?

You could convert them to avios or any of the other options, e.g. hotel points. You can’t just keep them as points once you’ve cancelled the card though. I think you might be able to have them transferred to ARCC – I’m not sure how it affects other MR sign ups, my feeling is that it doesn’t but check first!

ARCC will allow you to keep MR points and allows you to get subs points from introducing others to Amex however it precludes you from starting the 2 year intro bonus clock

    Thanks both.
