Whenever I go through T5, it’s always so hot. Winter or summer, it’s always about 23C in there.
It’s not nice getting hot and sweaty before getting on a long hall flight.
For a reasonably new building, did they not put air con in there?
I am not sure what is cause and what is effect, but people don’t really dress themselves anymore. I hear people complain about home heating bills but they wander around at home in tshirt and shorts all year long. Similarly I see many young men arrive at airports in winter in huge jackets with a single layer crew neck tshrt on underneath. As I say I’m not sure if airports are too warm to account for people wearing very little or the other way around.
As someone who really feels the heat these days, I sympathise; I always look utterly bedraggled within about 10 minutes of entering any airport!
There is air con in T5, but I’ve only ever felt it when I’ve been in the mezzanine area in Galleries North, so I assume it’s up in the rafters somewhere and not detectable at ground level. However, it’s very difficult to keep a building cool when there’s so much glass – this is the reason houses in hot countries are traditionally built with small windows and thick walls.
@BWS, you are so right – and teenagers these days seem fully convinced that central heating, and not clothes, is the standard method of keeping warm!
