Taxi JFK – Manhattan is now $ 70 plus extras

Thought I was being ripped off but no the base fare to / from JFK / Manhattan is now $ 70 plus supplements and fees and toll!

Ir used to be $ 52 plus extras!

My last 2 Uber rides were $81 and $82. I left a 10% tip over and above that. At least with Uber one earns Avios and Curve Cashback.

Doing some googling I discovered that taxi fares in New York haven’t increased in 10 years!

Pretty sure I paid $56 (plus tip) from Times Square to JFK at the start of 2022.
So that is quite a significant increase.

I pulled the plug on an NYC trip a few days ago – 3 weeks in the USA over Christmas was fun but I think I’ll give it a miss until such a time as prices/tipping practices/car hire charges/resort fees etc become less ridiculous – if they ever do!
