Last night received an email from IHG One Rewards with following text:
You’ve recently earned 27,141 points! Now, you can boost those earnings by buying points in just a few clicks with this exclusive offer.
Boosting your earnings means more points to redeem for Reward Nights and access to exclusive experiences. Ready to give your earnings a boost?
It then gives me options of 1X Boost, 2X Boost or 3X Boost. However, when I compare the cost of purchasing these bonus points with those available to purchase as a member, there seems to be very little difference. IHG are currently offering an 80% bonus when purchasing points.
Has anyone else received this offer and what is the benefit of purchasing points in this way.
Not sure its a good deal
“ what is the benefit of purchasing points in this way” – the benefit is to IHG who will dazzle enough people with the word boost and multiplication signs.
Yes I got excited for about 20 seconds when I got the email and then realised it was just marketing spin to get you to buy points.
You can also boost them by staying at the HI Bulawayo, apparently!
As with all points purchases, as Rob says, they’re only worth it if you have an outsize redemption planned, e.g. Kimpton Seafire which is 70k pn (until IHG decides that’s a mistake!) but can be £1500 pn on peak dates.
IHG must have some new marketing staff – the recent “invitation” to join Ambassador turned out to be underwhelming as well.
Are these qualifying for status? That;s the only reason I’d pay for them.
