Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Ticket to Beijing – CEDR?

The letter was collected by BA 19th Jan but I’ve not received a response. Looks like CEDR I go.

    Hi all,

The letter in Jan to the Head of Legal was never responded to so I sent a letter to Customer Relations in late Feb via special delivery asking for a deadlock letter. They responded to me last week saying I was not due any compensation (despite asking to rebooking and not monetary compensation).

I’m preparing to lodge a CEDR claim but as they can only award cash, am I right in thinking I need to book alternative flights and claim the cost of that? Business class flights to Beijing are £3.5k a pop on BA and non-refundable so seems like a big gamble. Other carriers are slightly cheaper but involve long connections or multiple stops.

Would I be better off asking BA to rebook me on my original Avios booking and then claiming the difference in Avios (converted to a cash amount) and surcharges? I’m hesitant as I don’t want this to be seen as accepting a re-route.

@timothy – CEDR can require a rebooking remedy, but you can put a cash alternative with evidence for the sum claimed as well.

Thanks @JDB for clarifying. I’ve completed the CEDR form with a claim amount of £0 but clearly outlining that I am seeking a rebooking for December 2023.

@timothy I hope that in framing your case, you have taken note of the various comments made here (and noted some of the winning case phrases) and hopefully added some extra points. As many have identified, your case is at the outer reaches of reasonable so the presentation will be very important.
