Rob, many thanks for the tier point article today which I found very useful and was pleased to discover that I seem to have a tier point extension, as does the rest of the family. Happy days. I do have a question though: I am silver and have membership y/e 8/11/22 and card expiry 31/12/23 which means I have been granted an extension – so (assuming I never accrue any more tier points) when do I drop back down to Bronze? Am I silver until 8/11/24?
Yep. Thanks Rob. I was hoping you guys would do an article on this! Great minds think alike eh?
I am doing my first Tier Point Run next month. I’m still relative new-bee to the Airline Points game but having wracked up 1/2 million points between myself and my wife in 20 months since first contacting you, your enthusiasm has encouraged me to use this scene as a hobby!
I will post my experiences of the slightly risky 8 flight Tier Point Run to the West Coast of America and although I am not on any social media platforms, I’m considering opening an account to share my trip.
Cheers mate
@tomahawk you are silver until 31 Dec 2023 – the date of expiry of your card. Assuming you don’t earn any more TP until that date you will drop to Bronze on 1 Jan 2024 and will remain Bronze until 31 Dec 2024.
Thanks AJA.
I am not sure what I have gained from this extension then, it seems nothing. Before the extension I would have had card expiry 31/12/22 and since I achieved Silver a couple of months ago I would retain Silver for the next year i.e. until 31/12/23 before dropping to Bronze. on 1/1/24
With the extension to 31/12/23 I still drop to Bronze on 1/1/24 so appear to be in exactly the same position as I was before the extension!!
So were you Bronze back in April? If so it looks to me like you didn’t receive any extension but have benefitted from a promotion to Silver. This has given you Silver for the remainder of your current year plus the whole of the next year.
Yes I think thats exactly whats happened. The article made it sound like you had an extension if the card expiry was 13 months after the tier point end, but in my case it is 13 months after because of the carry over year after reaching a new status level. Thanks for clarifying this.
