Hi,
Long time reader, first time poster, hoping for some advice please.
BA Executive Club Member, currently Gold. Last November, before the announcement of the Executive Club overhaul, I booked a return from London to Bangkok via Helsinki on Finnair (all legs to be operated by Finnair). Travel was in June just gone. Would have been worth 480 tier points of the 600 required for Silver pre overhaul.
My outbound journey was cancelled due to industrial action in Finland, and Finnair offered me the alternative of BA to Stockholm, Thai Airways Stockholm to Bangkok, which I accepted.
I’ve received 534 Tier Points for London Stockholm, nothing for the Thai Airways leg, and 1508 for the 2 unaffected return legs on Finnair.
Questions as follows:
1. I’ve read a little about Original Routing Credits”. Presumably I should be contacting Finnair about this? Am I likely to be successful?
2. As the flights were booked before the announcement of the Executive Club overhaul, my understanding was that existing bookings would have their tier points multiplied (by 13?) so you would receive the equivalent progress towards status in the new currency as you would have in the old. Based on what I read, I was expecting to receive about 6200 tier points from this booking. Is that correct?
3. If the above assumptions are correct, do I get Finnair to give me the Original Routing Credit, and then, on receipt, raise it with BA to multiply it by 13 (or whatever amount)?
Phoned BA but they knew literally nothing and told me to raise it on their website. Got a feeling I’m going to have to work quite hard to get what I think I’m due. Would be very grateful indeed for any advice that might send me in the quickest and easiest direction (or at least save me from wasting my time).
Many thanks.
2. Unfortunately this conversion does not work for Finnair flights, so it reverts to distance based, as BA probably does not know the price, which is terrible in the new system.
This will be quite tricky to get sorted especially as you were moved onto Thai which isn’t a OW airlines. It’s not an absolute barrier though as I once got ORC for a Jet Blue flight when an AA flight was cancelled but that was under the old rules.
If you are crediting to BA then don’t involve AY in this. Crediting to AY and then asking them to transfer the TPs to BA for “conversion” isn’t how it works.
What I would do is clearly write down in steps what happened and use this as a crib sheet when calling the Gold Line.
The clearer you are with the agent with what happened and what you want will make it easier for them to work out what needs to be done.
