Travel insurance that cover Avios bookings

Hi there,

I know we had a discussion before when Nationwide announced the change of the insurance provider.

I was wondering if anyone got a list of providers that would cover points bookings? Since the cover that came with HSBC Premier is provided by Aviva and doesn’t cover points bookings.

@DJ – it’s worth looking at the section(s) and circumstances under which Avios aren’t covered which are really very limited. The change was rather badly introduced but on reflection, I’m not going to move but obviously questions relating to insurance are personal to your circumstances and needs.

I asked the FOS about this, and they fobbed me off as they only deal with complaints “after the fact” (something I completely disagree with). Personally I wouldn’t worry. There’s plenty of FOS resolutions re: “air miles” that show them both to “have value” and to be under their remit.

I think the insurance companies are trying to insulate themselves from “cancel for cash” (inc. hotels) scenarios rather than real claims.
