Interesting reading the replies, a lot of positives there which outweigh my single bad experience. Perhaps I’ll give them another try!

Just a quick update. I had to cancel after I’d paid the full balance. The money was refunded to my credit card straightaway. Much easier than my avios flights!

    Hi Hugo R,

I am in a similar position. I want to book a hotel room only, and the best rate is by far through Travel Republic, however despite their excellent rating on ‘Trust Pilot’, many people seem to have had issues with them. A year on from these original posts, how do people rate TR today? Also, I am intrigued by your booking strategy hugo r, would you giving me your e-mail so I can discuss it with further? I DM you on this forum apparently, but would greatly appreciate your help.

Many thanks for any helpful advice.

I know this is old but thought I’d warn as many people as possible. Do not use them. Booked a hotel and then a week later get a call saying it was a pricing error. Either I pay the difference or cancel. I thought ok maybe it was an error. So I wait a week and book a different hotel with them just to see what happens. They did the exact same thing again. Definitely a scam company that entice you with a lower price and then try to charge more.

I have used travel republic many times , they are owned by emirates so I would say they’re pretty trustworthy.

Sometimes I do the same as others have mentioned . Book the hotel via travel republic and just pay the deposit , wait a few days then I email the hotel for the confirmation number check all is ok , then ask for a price match or incentive to book direct.

I recently did this in Jan for Le royal Meriden DXB , they matched their rate and 1 cat room upgrade which I took and worked out well as a bonvoy member . I then canx the red from travel republic and lost deposit (£20)

also did the same for shangri la Chiang Mai , they offered to better there rate by x amount which accepted.

Just make sure you don’t pick a non refundable room type.

if it is any help I made a hotel only booking with them in sepetember 2022. The price I was getting was lower than all other websites and even directly with the hotel. being a member of the hotel I was surprised travel republic was still cheaper than the booking with the hotel directly.

like yourself I was quite concerned about the company beforehand however what I did was to contact the hotel after I had made payment to travel republic.

The hotel were aware of my booking and all payments to them had been received so everything was fine. that would also be my advice. if your a little concerned, maybe contact the hotel to see if they have your booking or not.
