Do you now need to open an Uber money account to add a gift card? I haven’t needed to in the past. Am I right in saying once you have an Uber money account you can’t use credit for train tickets?
Correct.
Uber support don’t understand (or care) when you tell them you didn’t ask for this.
I loaded up high value gift card and got stuck with this. To be fair I contacted their support and they did shift it across to my Uber credit account within 24hrs so I could use it for trains, but assume it’s not something you could rely on them continuing to honour.

I’m curious to know more on this or how I should add the credit, I bought a gift card from Topgiftcards earlier but unsure where to correctly add the credit for use of buying train tickets. Any advice appreciated.
I don’t think “officially” you can anymore. You’re only able to add gift cards to your Uber Money account which can’t be used against trains. I was doing the same thing until I discovered Uber had made the change and failed to tell anyone! I don’t live in London and have very infrequent need to use it on taxis/takeaway deliveries.
If you’ve already bought the gift card, I’d advise adding it and then emailing CS and ask them to move it to your Uber Credit account citing that you weren’t aware of the change.
They’ve closed all routes to adding credit to anywhere but a Uber Money account from what I could tell. I use uber a lot so works fine for me but less useful not being able to use for trains
As far as I’m aware even without the gift card route, the 10% credit (which can be used on trains) and small amount of avios still make it the best value way to buy tickets (for me at least)
It is. But it’s a limited time deal think it runs out 31st August.
And if you don’t have uber locally then having a gift card that can only be used on rides/food isn’t the best use.
I have an Uber account which I created ages ago when I was an expat in Hong Kong. For some reasons, I am not able to open an Uber money account. Looks like I will have to create a new Uber account to add gift cards I purchased recently. Any ideas how to make it work before I open a new account?
Also, just to summarise, with this new change Uber gift cards (which can now only be added to Uber money account) can only be used for taxis and food delivery but not for trains. Is that right?

Have you tried just going into the Uber app, account, Uber Credit and then add funds, the add the gift card?
Uber have been really poor about communicating these changes. Uber Money is now the new default product apparently. If you have Uber Credits, it will no longer be available on your account once your balance is zero. And they are no longer transferring Uber Money to Uber Credit.
