I’ve noted that I appear to have been systematically under-credited HH points for recent stays in Europe. On reviewing my account, I’ve been undercharged by approximately 10% on my base points (and therefore on the bonuses I get as a Diamond member as multiples of these).
Points should be credited at a rate of 10 points per USD spent – my suspicion is that they’ve entered the exchange rate in the system the wrong way round: it’s currently 1.04USD to the EUR and I suspect they’ve got it as the inverse.
All sorted out by emails to customer service – but with my annual earnings being c600k HH points, that would be in the region of 60k points I’d be “under-credited” – which is 1 or 2 nights away somewhere…
I think it’s meant to be 10 points per dollar before taxes. Were you calculating after tax?
What do you mean by “sorted out”?
And yes, it is before taxes, 10points per USD. And taxes change from country to country. The itemised bill often reflect the taxes.
I’ve got into a routine of emailing HH immediately after my stays with a copy of the invoice, asking them to check and re-credit my HH points if they believe they have been under credited, according to their stated rate of 10 points per USD. Given their calculation is completely opaque, I’m unable to replicate either where it’s gone wrong or how it’s been corrected, but I’m getting (without exception) about 10% more points per stay (single night stays currently) once they have checked and corrected – so far an additional 20,000 points this year.
A strange situation. But sounds like a good investment of your time to get more points by simply sending an email.
Not really had any issues with the points I receive, except that the USD exchange rate used is typically 2-3% lower than it should be.
