I am thinking about taking out the premium virgin card as i have a large non amex spend coming up. I have a stash of virgin points from conversion of tesco clubcard. I want to travel upper class(one way) as I would use ba for return. I don’t have any status so could I clarify if I had enough points for 2 premium tickets can I use the voucher to get us 2 x upper (if there is availability obviously) or do I have to pay for premium and then upgrade. Its like to be a usa destination so just trying to work out how many points i need. Thanks
I think the best way of doing this is to upgrade 2 x PE award with the voucher. IIRC you have to use extra points to use it as a 241 unless you have status with Virgin.
The fees are pretty hefty though – I think nearly £600 pp on some routes, one way!
@Anna is correct. Red members owe 50% of the Points required to get in to Upper in addition to their voucher. This requirement is waived for Silver and Gold members. You can view how many points you need at https://flywith.virginatlantic.com/gb/en/flying-club/spend-points/upgrade-with-points.html. Firstly, find the right season (the dates are listed) for your journey, then the table should tell you the return price. Half that, and you’ve got yourself the price in points.
Taxes, fees and surcharges can be heavy, though.
