Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Upgrade with Avios pricing – only top avios option is possible

  • 213 posts

I wanted to upgrade a revenue booking for two people with Avios and the only option I was given was the difference between the Avios price in CE and ET for the option with max number of Avios, therefore 30,000-18,500. It used to be the difference between the RFS prices.

Was the agent right? Such a ripoff.

HUACA. The UK based agents tend to be more knowledgeable and flexible on this kind of thing, if you can get through to one (though not always). I’ve just spent the morning trying to do something similar!

That’s what I’d do – but I fear the agent, who was UK based, might be right. That is also the avios pricing when trying to book and upgrade with Avios online…

Might be a case of “computer says no” then – another “enhancement”! Helpful to know this, though that doesn’t help you.
Reasonable cash upgrades sometimes pop up in MMB.

Is there any additional cash payable? If not, the difference between the Avios required at maximum rate would be logical, even though the cash and Avios difference at the old RFS rate almost certainly works out more attractive.

At 1p/Avios that’s £115 equivalent for a return, or two people one-way. I suspect a cash upgrade (and almost certainly the original price difference) is likely to be higher than that.
