Hi all
I’m considering buying an Economy ticket from
Tashkent (Uzbekistan) to LHR/LGW, the plan I’ve got is to upgrade the Doha to London leg using Avios points, the only problem is I can’t work out the cost, I’ve tried ringing QR CS, and asked them, but they can’t give me a quote without me having a booking…
I’m not at all interested in upgrading the TAS-DOH leg, the flight isn’t long enough to be worth bothering with, plus it’s an A320 aircraft.
Please help me by saying how much the upgrade leg will cost (using Avios), or give me directions on how to work it out without needing to buy a ticket beforehand
Thank you !
Jonathan
You could avail of the 24 hour cooling off period to book a ticket then get the quote
Edinburgh to Doha was 40000 avios plus £100 earlier this year.
I cannot remember but I was able to see the upgrade option for Doha to Heathrow back in January and I swear it said 38000 Avios. I had paid 19000 Avios to upgrade a shorter flight to get into Doha.
I think it was 38000 because I was kicking myself after upgrading the shorter flights just to experience their business class seats and realising that they weren’t Q-suites. Was telling myself I should’ve just booked Doha to Heathrow for the same price as the two upgrades. They’ve now been downgraded to the A330 2-2-2 seats.
It’s annoying that it’s not easy to work out, plus buying a cash ticket then upgrading using Avios is rarely covered here on HfP, on BA alone let alone the other Avios carriers
Thanks to everyone for the help so far,
I’m not sure if there’s a 24 hour cooling off period you get when booking the ticket, funny thing is that it’s best value to use my free Amex MR card and book via their travel website since it gives 2 MR points per £1 spent, although correct me if I’m wrong, but would that make it more difficult to upgrade a ticket using Avios ?
Sometimes airlines get funny about upgrades if you haven’t booked directly with them…
When I tried speaking to an agent to get a figure, they said it depends on the booking code of the Economy ticket, I nearly always have fixed travel dates, so I never book Y for instance

I have upgraded for EDI to DOH on 10th October. 30000 Avios and £100 ish.
I’ve upgraded IST-DOH for travel later this month and paid 19000 Avios with no further cash required.
