Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Use Avios to upgrade a JAL Flight

  • 1 post

Hi there, first time posting on here so apologies if this is covered elsewhere.

I have a return flight booked for March with JAL in premium economy but as they’re part of the Oneworld Alliance I (seemingly naively) assumed I would be able in some way to use my Avios balance to upgrade the flights. JAL stated this would need to be done by BA & BA have stated that it is against their policy to use Avios to upgrade JAL flights using Avios.
Is there any possible way that anyone can think of to do this? Maybe there’s a way to transfer Avios to JMB that I’m unaware of?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks!

How did you purchase the ticket in the first place? Was it an avios redemption? But if it was ticketed by JAL, BA won’t touch it whatsoever. Unfortunately it seems you were wrongly advised by a JAL agent.

There may be some crazy way of getting avios to JAL through multiple intermediaries but no doubt this would massively devalue any balance you have and so not worth it

You cannot transfer avios to JAL as they have their own loyalty scheme and “currency”.

Being part of OneWorld doesn’t mean they use avios too. This is similar to CX or others in the alliance.

JAL offers cash upgrades (for instance from Y to PE) at the airport or online but usually when you book cash through them.
