Hi,
I now have 2 companion vouchers, one old style that expires June 23 and a new ‘premium plus’ voucher that expires Feb 2024. When I go to make a booking with the intention of using both vouchers for 4 passengers it only lets me select one or the other even though it states ‘Maximum of 2 per booking’. Is this an IT glitch, an actual restriction or am I doing something wrong?
Hiya, its a restriction. You cant combine the old and new vouchers either online or by an agent.
Yes, it is in the Ts&Cs:https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/executive-club/offers/terms-and-conditions/amex-companion
10. Only Companion Vouchers of the same type can be combined and redeemed on one Reward Flight booking (e.g. If a Cardmember holds a British Airways American Express Companion Voucher earned before 1 September 2021 and a British Airways American Express Credit Card Companion Voucher earned after 1 September 2021 they will need to be redeemed on separate bookings.
Bearing this in mind, what would be the best alternative Avios + voucher + cash options for getting 4 people from London to Tokyo, CW outbound, WTP home?
If both vouchers are in your name, I think you’re going to have to call BA to book for 4 as separate bookings would require you to travel on both. If you call as soon as the seats are released the agent might be able to hold them for you while the complete the booking process. Be aware though, that on a lot of routes only 2 WTP seats get released.

Does this work if the same person owns both vouchers? I thought the issue highlighted when the new vouchers started was that as the owner of the voucher has to be one of the travellers, you can’t have two separate bookings??
What was said originally is that you use one voucher on a booking for four people and pay Avios for three.
Yes thats the problem, I would have to be on two bookings, one for each voucher. My follow up question was really about best use of points/cash for the other 2 PAX that re not on the voucher (e.g. Book with cash & upgrade with Avios, buy more Avios and book just with Avios etc. etc. Given the state of Japan I want to retain as much flexibility as possible. The beauty of a 100% Avios booking being that I can cancel and get it all back instead of a voucher.
Book with Avios on BA/JAL if you want the most flexibility. Perhaps start exEU to bring the taxes and charges down. A lot depends on what you consider value and how flexible your plans are. Japan should open up soon anyway, it’s not governed by zero covid fantasists. You might be able to get a better cash fare before it opens up, which shouldn’t be much of an issue if booking within BA’s BWC window.
@JDB, if you have 2 of the same kind of companion voucher you can book online for 4 pax and pay avios for 2 people. I’m sure Rob has done this for him and his wife and children. So presumably if you had 2 old vouchers and one new one, you could use the 2 old ones on a single booking but not an old and a new.

Correct, but the original poster said he had old + new type.
