Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Virgin LAX aircraft types for next March

I’ve been asked this here before but as someone who’s new to airline points & voucher redemption I’m rather in the dark.
I’ve heard and seen much about the dreaded ‘coffin’ seats on Virgin’s 787s, is there a way of avoiding them? I know Virgin often swap aircraft types but if I’d like to do my best to avoid them in the first place.
Does anyone have any thoughts or tips to help me or is it just a matter of phoning Virgin as I have a voucher to use.

    Yes, book another airline.

Seriously though, you can never guarantee an aircraft type until you are in the seat.

Personally as someone who spent most of my life travelling economy then graduating to PE and I’m now thankful I can travel business class I don’t really have a problem with the seat as I appreciate the opportunity to travel that way. I do think there is a bit of snobbery about knocking the seat.

Try it for yourself and make up your own mind.

It’s personal preferences – while its true that 90% of people prefer the newer seats there are some of us that prefer the 787 (no feet in a hole and bar rather than Loft)
I certainly sleep better on 787

I agree with @ChasP and @MOK that it is totally personal preference.

I’d add to their good points made already that you should chose the A row seats if flying this old style cabin. I can get perfectly comfortable in the ‘coffin’ style seats PROVIDED I do not have a stranger unavoidably in my direct eyeline a few metres away, which is what you get in the G and K rows, facing each other.

Also, location on the aisle makes a BIG difference too. Middle of the numbers is best for us, so you are neither too close to the forward galley or the rear bar / toilets if you are hoping to get some sleep.
