Forums Payment cards Virgin Atlantic Virgin Points on Singapore Airlines?

  • 2 posts

Hi, I’m wondering whether or not is possible to use virgin points to purchase tickets to Melbourne (using Singapore airlines) I’m sure I read somewhere that they were flying partners/ affiliated in some way to virgin Atlantic and that points earned via Virgin mastercard could be used to book flights, it doesn’t have to be Singapore Airlines, if virgin is affiliated to any other airlines that fly from Uk to Melbourne, I currently have 300.000 virgin points and was hoping to use these points to book 2 tickets to fly business class return to Melbourne (hopefully by the time we come to travel February 23 we will have around 400.000 points I would be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction or offer some advice on the best way to use my points to make this trip happen, cheers

It’s very complex. Basically, you can only redeem Virgin Points on Singapore Airlines for flights on short haul aircraft, eg: “Redemptions in Business Class and First Class on their A380-800, 777-300ER and A350-900 aircraft types are not available.”

Unless you want Economy, you’re stuck.

    There are other options though.

If Virgin Australia is flying long haul now, there may be a way of connecting with a Virgin Atlantic flight in Hong Kong or similar?

Does ANA fly to Oz? If so, you could do Virgin or ANA to Tokyo and connect to ANA

Air New Zealand? Again, you could connect with a flight in, say, Tokyo (use Virgin from London) and then do Virgin Australia or AirNZ to get across from Auckland.

As Rob says SQ blocks premium seats rewards availability to its partners.
In addition to his suggestions, try any routes from KLM / AF /Delta. KLM flies to Bali via SIN. Might be a good option to break your journey on the way.
