Forums Payment cards Other payment cards Visa credit cards

Are there any decent Visa rewards credit cards on the market? All mine are Amex/Mastercard and I just got caught short trying to buy Paris Olympics tickets – which only accepts Visa cards for payment. Ended up paying on my Revolut but realise I am now without Section 75 protection. It’s too late to change it now, of course, but I’d be interested to know if there is one I can apply for in the meantime in case I end up buying more tickets. I haven’t had a Visa card in my wallet in years… Thanks in advance.

Visa has lost a stronghold over to Mastercard

    Yes, I remember.

I looked recently and there really isn’t much. I still have a Hilton Barclaycard Visa, which came in handy recently for a country with low Mastercard acceptance, but this card has been closed to new entrants for some years.

Oh, that sucks. My window to buy tickets is tomorrow and had no idea you had to use a Visa card. My only one is from my Lloyds current account.

I know – it really threw me! Maybe see if the person you are planning on going to the Olympics with has a Visa card – or make sure you have the funds in your current account at the very least!

Whilst not a reward card, have you considered the Nationwide credit card? It does give FX fee free transactions. Though I believe you need to have an existing product with Nationwide before you can apply for their credit card.

I like using the finder website to find cards. There are many criteria on the left hand side of the screen from which to filter the cards. Though I don’t remember seeing any criteria around rewards. To find the site, I normally type into Google: Finder credit cards

Edited to add: Just checked and you can filter for rewards, frequent fliers and a few other categories. Though the site’s definition of reward may not match your definition of reward.

Barclays Rewards card is Visa giving a measly 0.25% CB, free Fx, and free cash withdrawal abroad. It’s a backup card for Curve whilst away for me.

Thanks all. I think I’ll check out the Barclays Rewards card that Gary suggests. More for the Visa backup than the value of the rewards on offer!

    Is this still the case?

Just checked the official website: https://tickets.paris2024.org/faq/en_en/category/how-to-buy/what-payment-methods-are-allowed

In recognition of Visa’s long-standing partnership with the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Visa is the Official Way to Pay. Other payment methods that will also be accepted on the official ticketing site are credit and debit cards, bank cards, MasterCard, JCB cards and UnionPay.
Payment cards are the only payment method allowed when purchasing online from the official ticketing site.

It looks like they do take other payment cards… Anyways, ordered a Visa card just in case, thanks for the head up!

Asda (1p per £ in Asda, 0.3p elsewhere, paid in Asda Rewards credit)
The Co-operative Bank Members Card (1p per £2 spent in Co-op food stores, 1p per £3.33 elsewhere, must be both a Co-op bank account holder and a Co-op Group member)
Barclaycard Rewards (0.25% flat rate, no FX fee)

That’s your lot in terms of rewards Visas, excluding products no longer open to new applicants (i.e. Hilton 🙁 )

Got and happily using the Hilton Visa, and thank God when you look at those crap alternatives!
