Been staying at the Phoenix in Yogyakarta (a little dated) and came across something I haven’t seen before – different drinks availability with the welcome drinks voucher by status level:
At silver level only soft drinks
At gold, one beer type available
Platinum got you spirits like a G and T
Diamond got you things like cocktails
I only got into ALL this year so haven’t redeemed a voucher in many places so this might be common but seemed a bit penny pinching to me vs a more standard limitation of say house beer, wine and spirits regardless of level
Not come across that before – I’ve never held anything higher than Accor Gold status but certainly at Silver I have managed to get a beer or glass of wine (spirits not included).
Maybe some Platinum or Diamond status holder will be along soon to confirm what’s available above Gold.
Likewise, I’ve not seen that before. I suspect it is hotel dependent as when Silver we always had a beer or a glass of wine and the same since being Gold. At the M Gallery in Amsterdam last year was offered a cocktail each but that may have been because it was a slow night and the bar tender was bored.
Not sure if you could have a G&T as Gold as I’ve never asked for one.
I think I’ve only seen this once, and that was at Novotel Wembley many many years ago, with drinks for Gold and above being different from Silver.
Haven’t really seen anything like that since then, even when I had Plat.
The catchily named ‘ALL – Accor Live Limitless’ loyalty programme says in its T&Cs section 9.8 (Welcome drink for members of ALL):
“Members with Silver status and above are offered a welcome drink during their stay. For each stay, Members are given a voucher upon arrival. This drink is only for Members who made the reservation and who are staying at the hotel…The number of vouchers and choice of drinks are determined by the hotel. You will be given all the details at the hotel.”
I take two very important points from this:
(1) What is offered is entirely at the discretion of the hotel. In my experience, you mostly get vouchers for two drinks of a certain type/value. That type/value does not vary between status levels, although @Olly clearly found an outlier in Yogya.
(2) Most importantly, not wanting to be in breach of the rules, I will no longer allow Mrs GT to share the free drinks with me!
