Tried using the search, but could not find the info sorry.
Have a Amex Plat, but know I need to opt in for certain benefits.
Is there a list of what needs to be opted in?
Have found the hotel schemes & Lounge Pass.

Im sure I read I need to opt in for insurance.
What about the dining credit? Harvey Nic & are there any other’s I may have missed?

Harvey Nics and dining credit are both under the usual offers tab – will appear within a few days of opening or you can call to add before that.

The insurance opt-in was on the application form when you applied.

    Other benefits are here: https://benefitsglobal.americanexpress.com/benefits/status?Face=en_GB

Any idea how to get the upgrade to Avis President’s Club to work? I click through from the Amex page but it doesn’t do anything helpful.

Slightly off topic to Amex opt in benefits, but could someone clarify if you need to book hotel stays direct with the hotel using the Amex Platinum card to receive the additional benefits when checking in?

You need to book on Amex FHR booking system to get the platinum benefits.
Or you could use Emyr who can get similar, if not better, benefits but his rates are usually the Hotels ‘best available’ rate. In the past I’ve used a Virtuoso agent who matched to Plat benefits and achieved a 3 for 2 rate but that’s rare.
Or you could contact the Hotel direct and negotiate them at whatever rate they will give you.

To get the Fine Hotels & Resorts benefits ($100 credit etc) you need to book via travel.americanexpress.co.uk and choose the FHR rate.

The Hilton / Marriott / Radisson status benefits don’t need you to book via Amex Travel – in fact, ironically, if you did book via Amex Travel you forfeit your Hilton / Marriott / Radisson status benefits because it’s not a direct booking.

Thanks Rob, I was thinking more of the hotel status benefits having the Platinum card.
Just to clarify I can book a BA holiday staying at a Hilton/Marriott all booked through BA and when I check I flash the Platinum card? Or do I need to notify them in advance?

I just cancelled my BA holiday hotel in exchange for car hire. I will spend the savings on hotels booked via FHR.

Flashing your plat will have no effect.

What Roy said. But you seem to be misunderstanding slightly. The Plat card has no value in and of itself at say a Hilton front desk. They won’t understand why you are flashing it. Amex Plat by proxy gives you the ability to upgrade an existing or new Hilton Honors account to Gold status. It would therefore be this Hilton Honors Gold card (virtual; in the app) that you would wave at the front desk.

However even that is moot in the case of booking via BA or other third parties as Roy says. Only first party bookings with Hilton direct confer your Gold benefits and points earning on a stay. There is a HUGE disadvantage to booking Hilton stays direct and only providing your HH Gold member number at check in though – you will have missed out on being included the night before check in in the room allocation process do e by the front desk. Golds will be allocated better rooms (in general, always some bad apple exceptions) than no or lower status guests.
