Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club When do bassinet seats get released for booking in advance

  • 64 posts

Hi, I have a WTP flights to Dubai booked for next Feb (family of 4) and as the wife is BA silver we can select seats now. I went on to get the front row of the cabin, and only the non-bassinet seats are available at the moment for reserving. Will this be the case right up until departure, or has anyone had success getting these seats ahead of time? Children are young so not an option to be split up unfortunately. Thanks!

They’re usually released around T-72 if they haven’t already been taken, which on that route they may well have been. I found out recently that there’s some sort of IT issue with BA and you need to select the seats via RJ if and when they do become available (obviously this works in your favour if you know about this workaround, I imagine most people don’t).

Next best seats IMO are the back row because you can recline from the outset without disturbing anyone behind you – also nearer the loos which might be a bonus with kids.

If no infants have taken them the bassinets are typically released around (but not necessarily at) T-72. Even then it depends on how busy the flight is, so nice when it happens but not something to expect or rely on.

If all four want to sit together you need to choose that now. If willing to take a risk you could book three in the second row if available and one in front, and hope to pick up an additional front row later. Depends on how lucky you feel and/or how badly you want the front row, but getting four is unlikely.

Book something now . Then ring up at T minus 72. A helpful agent , better than IT

Ringing at T-72 won’t help if the seats haven’t been released, it isn’t an automated process and call centre agents can’t override it. It’s a manual step as part of the handover to airport control.

Either way it’s very likely by that point that some of the previously available non-bassinet bulkhead seats will have been taken, hence getting four is unlikely.

It shows on the seat map when they’re released, as noted calling BA won’t change this. I did exactly this a few weeks ago (thanks, @AndrewT, I think you gave me the tip!), went onto the RJ website, put in my booking ref and was able to select the bassinet pair. Much quicker than calling.

I once rang up and did get them released at T minus 7 days.
