Hello, got a 6pm LHR-YUL flight next week. How early can I drop my bags at the airport and make it to the lounge? May just go at noon and work and eat there before catching the flight. Will I get told off if I try to check-in 6hrs before take off?
Officially they have stated that passengers should not turn up at LHR more then 3 hours before the scheduled flight. How this is enforced however is not clear, it may be done electronically at the security gate or it may just be a human filtering?

Yes, before Covid. I could have checked my bag the night before but was not aware of this.
On the day they refused to let me check my bag before the then prevailing ruling – which I think was 5 hours. Whereas if I’d done the twilight bag checkin or been HBO, I could have gone through security whenever I wanted. I had to queue at a busier time so got much less work done when I finally reached the lounge.
I’ve got a feeling BA used to have different rules for Silver or Gold on this and I know I wasn’t Gold at the time but had been previously – so I might have been relying on a privilege I had before as Gold but not as whatever I was at the time
