Like many, I’m no longer chasing status with BA. My silver runs until Mar 26 and i’ll book with BA if the pricing/routes work. I’ve just booked a flight from EDI/AMS/MCO with KLM. I took advantage of the SAS status match so I’m Gold with them. I’ve used this under the KLM booking to get the seat/luggage extras – but which airline is now best to credit to? My local airport is EDI and my main regular overseas destinations are BKK and MCO. So, I was sticking with Avios because of Qatar to Bangkok, but for Florida, I’m now thinking I will be Star Alliance. I’m guessing it might be a case of using the SAS number to book, but then changing at the gqte??? but to whom>?? TIA
Delta has lots of flights from ATL for Florida.
Going with all three alliances seems ambitious unless you are just choosing the cheapest airline regardless of miles.
I’m not really going with anyone at this point. BA and Qatar are both avios so will use Qatar if it makes sense. It was more in regards a KLM booking – who to credit this to within the Star Alliance – FB, SAS or Virgin. I THINK you can use miles for partner bookings, but you can’t move so really it was just asking which of these three?
And I think, like many others, price/convenience is now going to be the main driver 🙁

Right, you aren’t talking about 3 alliances, you have mistaken Star for Skyteam
oops! yes, you’re right Skyteam not Star – no wonder I confused people:) sorry!!
As I wrote on an other similar thread a couple of days ago there really isn’t a one size fits all programme.
They all have their advantages and disadvantages.
QR for example requires you fly 4 sectors with them. That might suit some but not others.
And you need to look at the totality of your flights over an entire earning year (remembering these aren’t always aligned) and which alliance you’ll be using for those flights.
And most people won’t be able to earn status with multiple alliances and status match offers come and go.
And once you’re in one programme then you’re almost forced to stick flying with it if you want to maintain status even if they aren’t the best flights or cost more.
