Yes – but what is your cabin and Oneworld status?
I am in Club Europe. I in theory I will have just roled into BA Bronze
CJust to confirm, from a tour of all OneWorld T3 lounges last month: the review links still stand, no changes of note!
Didn’t even sit down in AA.
Immediately clear there was no point in staying – grabbed some sweets to go and a cup of water.BA Galleries I will be using for breakfast on an early flight, and simple food options.
Cathay and Quantas very pleasant environments, good for hanging out and drinking. Both good showers, but Cathay definitely the best.
Indeed not much on offer food-wise unless in Quantas unless a Quantas flight is departing soon.
Next time (earlier flight) it will be Galleries breakfast and then Cathay lounging..
So if I am flying BA Club Europe, and have a BA Bronze status, I can goto the Cathay lounge?
Thanks

Bronze doesn’t get you into any lounges, but Club Europe does, yes.

I did wonder why people were asking about my Oneworld status
Data point: I was refused access to Qantas in T3 recently with the explanation that they were ‘at capacity’. I doubt they were at 17:30 consider QF2 only departs at nearly 9pm, I suspect they use this phrase instead of the more complex explanation that they need to keep capacity free for their own premium flyers and status holders based on the expected numbers from the passenger manifest. When I enquired if I could expect this to happen throughout summer, I was told it was likely at weekends and ‘perhaps Tuesday to Thursday’ would yield a better chance of getting access. Something to bear in mind if you’ve got your heart set on dining in Qantas during the peak travel period. I understand QF are in the process of opening a dedicated First lounge which should yield greater capacity in the existing space, the downside might be the end of restaurant dining and the premiums drinks selection.
The Cathay lounge next door is ok and probably second best in T3, although the buffet food selection isn’t that special and there’s a very limited array of options on the Asian food menu in the dining area where you order at the counter, get a buzzer and go back to collect your food when it’s ready akin to a budget Asian noodle bar. The quality is excellent, but you need to be in the mood for one of 5 options of Far Eastern dishes. It’s not a patch on Qantas dining when the downstairs restaurant is open from 4 hours before the departure of QF2 and QF10. I find the service at the Cathay bar surly and the pours a little stingy, unlike Qantas which offers generous helping of sparkling and spirits if those are your poison of choice.
Just realised with horror that we’ll be in T3 without access to the One World lounges later in the year so the breakfast choice will be No 1 or Aspire. Not been in either for yonks so appreciate opinions
I’m not sure I agree with your assessment of the Qantas and Cathay lounges at T3 @Londonsteve. I have had very good food and wine in the F dining room of the CX lounge as well as delicious pastries and cheese etc on a number of occasions.
Last time we were in T3 about a month ago we decided to try the QF Lounge for a cocktail and a coffee having read that both were supposedly good in there. We sat in the upstairs bit and had a cocktail which was really tasteless and a Flat White which was like a week latte! I will give it a try again when the F section opens.
For cocktails you need the downstairs gin bar. The upstairs bar has a slimmer selection of mixed drinks. As for coffee, their Vittoria coffee is some of the best I’ve ever had, in fact, I was particularly impressed by the flat white. They must have been having an off day.
I’ve not been to CX F because I don’t have access. It’ll be interesting to hear what people think about QF F when it opens compared to CX but for J passengers I rate QF above the CX offering, except when QF isn’t doing table service and there’s only a buffet available. At those times I go to CX and avail myself of the limited array of hot food options.
I’ll give QF another chance next time we’re in T3.
Do we know when the F section is opening?
The sweet spots for QF are 0800-1045 and 1700-1930 (1600-1830 during the winter timetable) during which time the restaurant is open. They close the restaurant (and the lounge not long after) when QF10 and QF2 are called for boarding, generally around 50 minutes before scheduled departure. The lounge closes at approximately 2000 during summer and 1930 during winter but it depends on the actual time QF2 boarding is announced.
I think the CX lounge stays open a bit longer if you’d rather not have to relocate because your flight is departing later. I always go to QF and relocate to BA.
AFAIK QF F is just a proposal at the moment, they need to find a suitable space which might involve partitioning the existing lounge.
