Forums Payment cards American Express Who owns business bonus points?

I’m thinking of getting an Amex credit card for my business spending (I’m a director) – but in that case then surely the business ‘owns’ any points, and not me personally. Or is the card in both mine and the company name?

In a nutshell, the points remain the property of Amex or whichever partner you transfer them to. It usually depends on company policy who is allowed to spend them, but I guess if you’re the director, you make the policy!

I’ve seen people post that they are allowed to keep and spend points they earn on business, others that they’re not allowed to benefit from such schemes.

Amex Business cards are nothing of the sort. They have personal liability, acceptance is based on your personal credit and you get the points (companies cannot have MR accounts).

Corporate cards are different but those require £5m+ turnover.

Ah, interesting. That is useful, as I’ve only had the personal gold card for 3 months or so, so it could be worth waiting a while before applying for the business one, not sure if two personal applications in a short space would be ideal.

I had assumed it would be based on the LTD company’s accounts, rather than mine.

Under no scenario would Amex – or anyone else – give a large non-recourse credit line to a Limited company on the back of, at best, filed accounts that could be two years old.
