Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Wife and I each have cabin upgrade, how to use both ?

  • 28 posts

    Hi there,

Looking at some Avios flights for holiday in MCO. I have a Barclays upgrade voucher and my wife has a BA Amex upgrade voucher. Any ideas how we go about using both of these on the booking ?

I think if I deposit my Barclays upgrade in to my account I can see that, but I can’t see my wife’s voucher in our family account.

    Thanks,
    Roy.

You can’t mix these two vouchers on the same booking,

Do you mean your wife has the companion voucher?

Your options are 1) use the companion voucher for 2 of you and save the upgrade voucher for another trip.

    2) Make 2 separate bookings, you with the upgrade voucher and your wife using the companion voucher for a 50% avios discount.

You can only see the vouchers in your individual accounts.

You can either use the amex 2for 1 covering the both of you. You will need to log in via your wife’s account. This would be one booking.

Or you can use the Barclays voucher for a return on yourself, booked via your account. Then either booked a full price/avios for your wife. This would be done in your account, will be 2 bookings in total no guarantee you will sit together. or use her voucher to book a return for herself, booked from her account, again as a separate booking. No real reason to choose this option as you will need to use 2 vouchers when you could just use one unless the Barclays vouchers is about to expire and you can’t afford to one booking as full avios.

ok, and then, if I’m Silver and get free seat selection and she’s not. If I make 2 bookings, then she would need to pay for her seats ?

Think we maybe should not have got a voucher each….

It’s so tiresome having a lowly blue or bronze partner in these circumstances! But do you absolutely need to use both vouchers on the one trip?

well she doesn’t have to pay for a seat if you are willing to play the 24hour game and hope for the best.

If it is important to sit together. Suggest just using the 241 and book both of you on the same ticket.

Or book the outbound using the Barclays voucher together, and book full avios (no voucher) the return together. Forgot you could use the 241 to book the return leg but again why use 2 vouchers when you can use one.

Don’t really have anything else on BA flights planned as such. Thought I’d just burn the lot on Business for the 3 of us, wife, myself and son.

No mention this booking was to include your son previously – how old is your son ? Adult or child ? Advice for 3 persons, one that might be a minor will be different to 2 adult persons

    He’s 14, will turn 15 while we’re away

    Ah right, I understand now.

What we did for several years was to use a 241 for 1 adult and 1 child, and either pay cash or use Lloyds/Barclays voucher for the 2nd adult. We never had any issues with this and usually ended up seated together. With a teenager it’s no big deal if one of you isn’t particularly close to the other 2.

Just make 2 separate bookings, but do some research on getting the seats as soon as they’re released, as presumably you’ll be travelling in the school holidays? You and your wife could book from your individual accounts simultaneously, or other readers have posted that BA will “grab” all the seats if you call at T-355 and explain what you want to do.

I have two BC upgrade vouchers but whenever I try to see them in the Exec Club account I get a “ Sorry, there seems to be a technical problem” message. Is anyone else seeing this or just me?

ok more details on how you are trying to use them? Is there actually availabilities in the cabin you want to sit in when you book?

I’m just trying to see them in my account because I know one will be expiring in the new year, so want to check the exact date. When I click on “view vouchers” it throws up the error message. Just trying to establish if it’s a problem exclusive to me or a wider issue with the British Airways IT. Can you see yours in your account with no issue?
