We need to travel to Calgary for a wedding in September but there isn’t any reward availability to Vancouver or Toronto so we are considering a less direct route.
BA have already started reinstating certain routes that were dropped in 2020 but no word on YYC yet.
Is it likely that it wont be reinstated?

Interested too. We have outbound to Vancouver (with a inbound flight from LAS as was planning to go internal to Cali / Nevada for a few week), but want to cut the whole thing short and just come back from Canada :/
Was Calgary seasonal pre-covid?
I wouldn’t hold my breath, to be honest. Going forward, aircraft and crew are going to be the limiting factor on which routes BA chooses to relaunch. All those 747s that were retired in 2020 haven’t really been replaced.
It doesn’t seem like an obvious option given that both Air Canada and WestJet already fly the route nonstop. Perhaps if Alberta’s economy starts booming again.
It was year round but changed to seasonal a year or so before covid, which suggests it wasn’t doing brilliantly.
You have to be nuts if you want to fly BA on that route. Go Westjet Business, save some money, way better product, way better service.
WestJet don’t fly every day, which makes a half term ski break impossible. They also fly from Gatwick – a major disadvantage if you’re coming from the West or the North.
I would love to see BA reinstate Calgary, principally for winter flights as it’s tbuthe gateway to some of the world’s best skiing, but I can’t see it happening any time soon.
We had/have grand plans to do a fly-drive holiday – to fly BA in to Calgary, see the rockies, drive to Vancouver and return from there to London.
After BA cancelled our Calgary flights over the pandemic, I’ve given up and booked the same open-jaw with AirCanada for this summer. Hopefully no shenanigans this time!
Air Canada cancelled my upcoming direct flight to Calgary about a month ago and replaced it with a horrible connecting option. I was pretty happy with that, to be honest, as it gave me the chance to cancel for a full refund and rebook to the USA, which is a much easier place to visit in these covid times.

Oh interesting! … when were you planning to travel? … I am planning to visit Canada August 2022.

this is *literally* the BA Exec Club forum 🙂
Thanks for the help all, looks like we’ll have to find a less direct route 🙂

In a few weeks – February 2022. Cancelled in both directions and re-routed through Toronto.
Any insights as to whether the Feb Air Canada cancellations are one-offs, or for a prolonged period? We are planning a July trip
